Marcia M. Laviage, Ph.D.

Dr. Laviage completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Texas in Austin.  Pursuing the opportunity to conduct research in the area of juvenile delinquency and social policy, she attended the University of Connecticut where she earned her Master’s degree then Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.   Her master’s thesis studied child maltreatment and disrupted belief symptoms of high school drop-outs and adolescents identified by schools as “at risk;” her doctoral dissertation continued this line of study using a young adult male inmate population.  Based on her research, the Connecticut prison system was able to obtain additional funding to treat inmates with mental health issues.

After obtaining her PhD, Dr. Laviage completed postdoctoral training at Baylor College of Medicine in a nationally recognized leadership program with a specialty focus on Adolescent Health issues.  Eating Disorders and high risk adolescent behaviors were her main focus during this specialty year.  Upon completion of this unique training experience, she was employed by Texas Children’s Hospital offering individual, group, and family therapy services for children and adolescents.  She helped to create and was Co-Head of the Pediatric Health Psychology Program at TCH where she worked with children, adolescents, and their families with chronic health conditions such as diabetes, cancer, arthritis, and HIV.  She also supervised post-doctoral fellows and early career psychologists on their eating disorder cases, accepting responsibility for their inpatient and outpatient care of patients with ED.  Dr. Laviage opened her private practice in 2005 to offer the same quality care to populations outside of the Houston medical center.
